Eutectic point

A eutectic or eutectic mixture is a mixture of two or more solid phases at a composition that has the lowest melting point, and where the phases simultaneously crystallise from molten liquid solution at this temperature. The proper ratios of phases to obtain a eutectic is identified by applying the lever rule at the eutectic point on a binary phase diagram. The term comes from the Greek 'eutektos', meaning 'easily melted.' Alloys of the eutectic composition are said under go a eutectic reaction as the single phase liquid solidifies into a multiple phase solid.
